For this project, we had to create a story based on a myth, a fairy tale or a known story and pitch it with original character designs, turnarounds, layouts and more. Here's the final look of it:
Tail Under the Tide - Pitch Project

An animated series about a seal hunting pirate and a Selkie falling in love called Tale Under the Tide.
In this Romeo and Juliet inspired fateful tale, both of them will come together despite their differences and learn new things not only about each other but about themselves too
The character I designed was the vilain, the Pirate Captain and father to Irla's love interest Bryson, named Erskin. Here are his designs:
Erskin, which means "over the knife" in Irish, is the Pirate Captain in charge of the seal hunting business, which keeps his town’s economy going. It’s his responsibility to bring the seals to his town so they can sell the oil, skin, fat etc. He was trained under his father’s guidance to take over, which he does proudly. He was in love with a woman and had a child with her. She disappeared no longer after and left the child alone with him. He later finds out the woman was a selkie and now he has a monster as a spawn. He is ruthless, Strong, Stoic. You either kill or get killed mentality. No place for weakness or disobedience.
All he wants is to keep the seal hunting business going. They need their oil, skin and fat to survive. But truly, he NEEDS to keep his son from the salt water. So he keeps him close, on a tight watch. He's a father, a leader, he does what needs to be done, no questions asked. But deep down, he regrets the birth of his only child. The aberration. If he could, he'd take it all back. He'd do things different. But it's too late and he's too attached which, in a world like this, is a bad deal. He needs to find a cure for his son's condition.
